Tour of Somerville and my rack

A young couple in Somerville, NJ near my car: “We’re just checking out your rack”
Me: “oh don’t worry! I get that all the time!

I love a good one liner. Luckily, my teammate Nikki also enjoys my one liners. I once told a nice family who asked us where we were going when we got to the top of a hill, "Crazy! Wanna come?!?!" Thank you. Thank you. I'm here all night ladies and gents.

Anyways, about Tour of Somerville…

Before the race: I was just trying to remain calm, stay hydrated, eat when I could, have fun hanging out with my team, relax in the shade and not take this day too serious. Let’s be real. I was predicted to finish like 32nd out of the 65 registered riders that day.

Going into this race: I was so out numbered and out talented by the riders of the day, it was almost humorous.  Team Vanderkitten, MVP, Pure Energy, RideClean, Sanofi…oh and last but not least my first encounters of lining up with Laura Van Gilder.  I was actually at the back of the line next to her and you would have thought I was standing next to Kim Kardashian the way the town was reacting to her. It was awesome…not to mention her Corona beer feed at the end…even more amazing.

My coach told me how this race was going to go down before hand.  I was told just to surf off the back and 5 laps to go start moving up…which isn’t where I love to be, but I did it.

On lap 3, I was on the outside and shortly after turn 4 there was a loud crash of carbon…immediately, I was praying it wasn’t Nikki or Choppah because both of them are going to Liberty Classic this week…and that would be no bueno. Luckily, on lap 2 Nikki was by my side and helped me move up on half of the last lap then the rest was like usual… a blur. I remember seeing Melissa Garcia cruise on my left inside after turn 4 and jumped on her wheel trusting she could maneuver through the crowds bc of her track experience…it worked.  The sprint was crazy…it almost felt like it stopped before it started and then all of a sudden I was at the line…AND UPRIGHT!

I finished 12th out of 70 some riders (only 48 finished). Special shout out to Jeff Toth, Greg Horrocks, Beth Fayant, and  Erik Mitchell for cheering me on! BAM BAM! And Ry, for constantly telling me to move up. Oh and C-man for pulling me aside before the race!

Then Nikki took a beer feed, which I immediately put between my rack. LIKE A BOSS.

My racks have gravitational pulls! What can I say?
